About
the House
The
house it's self is a simple georgian style house, which I am painting
with a Stars & Stripes theme. The front is partly painted, but
I am considering changing the colours, so they are darker &
more vibrant.
The
inside is decorated with stars & stripes wallpapers I have got
from About Miniatures,
and some which I have adapted myself.
The
top room is the bedroom and nursery, together. The cot is an adapted
piece from Townsquare Miniatures. I recovered the matress in checks,
added checked sheets and suitable coloured blankets. Then I removed
the canopy, took off the original baby print check & lace, and
recovered it with a stars & strips print cotton, giving it a
ruffle.
The
bed is also mass produced, and originally featured a powder blue
synthetic fabric with a raised flower design. I recovered this with
the same stars & striped fabric as the cot. I also plan to repaint
it, replacing the pink & green flower motifs with suitable flag
designs.
The
bed will be made up with a star quilt I made years ago, and various
pillows & cushions in suitable fabrics.
The
rest of the furniture is fairly simple, just plain white drawers,
and a chair.
The
middle level is the lounge, and features a couch made by moi! It
was pretty simple to make, just out of sturdy card, padding &
fabric. It still needs beads for the legs, but I havn't found anything
suitable yet. :-)
I
also have a gorgeous needle point eagle rug that mny sister made
for me. And am desperately trying to drive a bargain with her so
I get to have a pair of beautiful carved wooden eagle paques for
the wall. But as yet it hasn't really worked!
The
bottom floor I think will be a kitchen, with table set in red white
& blue and various other "bits & pieces".
I
have several ideas for window dressings, all using stars & striped
fabrics collected on various trips to America.
Many
of the accessories in the house have been collected while on holiday,
or are pieces that I already had, in suitable shades of red white
and blue. There are also little touches from holidays in America,
such as the name mugs, with mine & my mum's names, which we
bought on one of our trips.
I
have also gleaned a lot off the internet. I made a lot of printies
myself, as well as many from About
Miniatures, and the MSAT
printies list.
A
lot of my inspiration for this has been from our collection of ountry
Living Magazines, with gorgeous 4th of July decoration ideas. I
translated a lot of them into dollshouse ideas and eventually decided
that I needed a whole house for them.
